A 7-year-old boy who had been missing out of the Arlington Heights area has been found safe, authorities said Wednesday afternoon. Derek Clay had previously been seen in the courtyard of an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The boy lives with his grandfather and brother and was playing in the courtyard when he went missing. His grandfather alerted authorities when he wasn't able to find the boy himself. Derek was found safe near 5th and San Pedro streets in downtown Los Angeles, police later said. It is unclear how the boy got there or if he was by himself, but there were people around when officers spotted him. He was reunited with his family, police said. Authorities had previously indicated that investigators were interviewing Derek's biological mother and brother to see if either of them knew where he was.

SF Giants’ Logan Webb on Tim Anderson ejection: ‘I’m not gonna listen to that’

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 09:58:58 GMT

CHICAGO — The Giants and White Sox, meeting here for the first time since 2017, aren’t exactly traditional rivals. But their first two games have each produced heated moments that just might make you think as much. The White Sox beat the Giants and Logan Webb on Wednesday, 7-3, but their star shortstop, Tim Anderson, wasn’t around long to enjoy it. He was ejected by home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn in the third inning after taking strike three and proceeding to shout at Webb from the dugout. The incident came a game after Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani and White Sox first baseman Andrew Vaughn exchanged words and had to be separated.Anderson’s ejection, of course, wasn’t that straightforward.Anderson, who left without addressing reporters, appeared to believe Webb quick-pitched him on the called strike three. Under the new rules, batters only get one called timeout per plate appearance, and Anderson exhausted his after the previous pitch. When he stepped back...

Get ready to celebrate the 408 at San Jose Day this weekend

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 09:58:58 GMT

I used to worry that nobody loved San Jose the way they did when I was a kid in the 1970s and ’80s, and that all the time we spend online left people with less of a connection to where they lived. Those of us who did love San Jose were getting gray and sometimes even our passion was cooling a bit.It turns out there’s no real need to worry, and one of the reasons is San Jose Day. You may not have heard about this, but there’s a huge, free event on Saturday — 4/08 on your calendar — at the Mexican Heritage Plaza to celebrate. It’ll have food trucks, live music, craft vendors, an art gallery and a car show. It’s everything San Joseans love besides orange sauce, swirls at Aqui and complaining about San Jose. What I really like about this event is who is putting it together. The eclectic collective behind San Jose Day is led by Haley Cardamon, Alejandro Berber, Jorge “J. Duh” Camacho, Carman Gaines, Patricia Stokes and Esther Young.Th...

Santa Clara is considering legal action against the 49ers management company, claiming the agency hasn’t turned over critical information to help the city prepare to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.Last June, FIFA announced Levi’s Stadium would be one of 16 U.S. venues to host the 2026 World Cup. But at this week’s Santa Clara City Council meeting, Mayor Lisa Gillmor said the 49ers — who manage non-NFL events at the city-owned stadium — failed to meet a Feb. 1 deadline set by the Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury to provide the city with key documents related to the 2026 World Cup.With three years to go before the major event comes to Santa Clara, the council is considering subpoenaing the 49ers or using other legal methods to pry the documents loose if they can’t obtain them in the next month or so.While the team did turn over some documents, Gillmor said they didn’t include information about the city’s requirements.“Other commun...

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago White Sox star Tim Anderson was ejected Wednesday in a 7-3 viictory over the San Francisco Giants after thinking he was quick-pitched by Logan Webb. The White Sox were up 2-1 in the third when Anderson came to bat. With a 1-2 count, he was in the batter’s box but not settled into his stance when Webb began his delivery with 11 seconds left on the pitch clock. Anderson stepped out and was already walking toward the home dugout when Webb threw strike three down the middle. Plate umpire D.J. Reyburn called Anderson out on strikes, and Anderson then turned back toward Reyburn to argue. Anderson pointed at his eyes several times, then shouted some profanities — apparently at Webb — from the dugout. He was ejected as teammate Luis Robert Jr. got called out on strikes. “He says that he wasn’t alert yet, he hadn’t put his eyes on the pitcher and he just stepped out,” Chicago manager Pedro Grifol said. “Probably could have called time or whatever, but ...
