Félix Bautista could prove to need elbow surgery, but the Orioles aren’t ruling out the All-Star closer returning in 2023, executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias said Monday.Bautista has a partial tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, an injury that sometimes results in Tommy John elbow reconstruction. But given the timing of the right-hander’s injury and the length of the procedure’s recovery, Elias said the Orioles are taking a “conservative approach” by attempting to have Bautista return rather than “diving into an operative procedure.”“I think the fact that we’re keeping him throwing right now speaks to the fact that this is not over for 2023, and it’s just going to depend on how he feels as we keep this going,” Elias said before the Orioles’ series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals.Losing Bautista, perhaps the best relief pitcher in the sport, for the remainder of the season woul...A chronicle of the mistakes that cost the Vikings against the Buccaneers

Talking to reporters less than 24 hours after the Vikings suffered a crushing 20-17 loss in their season opener, head coach Kevin O’Connell used the term “self inflicted” a number of times when trying to explain the debacle that took place against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.Ask anyone with the Vikings and they will admit they beat themselves.Let’s take a deeper look at the mistakes that cost the Vikings on Sunday:Ingram inadvertently knocking the ball outOn their second possession of the game, the Vikings were facing a third-and-short with a chance to keep the chains moving. They called a play that featured some eye candy before the snap, with fullback C.J. Ham going in motion. The goal was to get the defense flowing in that direction before pitching the ball to running back Alexander Mattison going the opposite way.It might have worked had right guard Ed Ingram not forced a fumble himself. He fired out of his stance with the snap of the ball and went to block ...Catholic youth camp drops plan to purchase Wilder Forest land

After working for more than a year to buy land and build a Catholic summer youth camp in northern Washington County, the Minnesota Catholic Youth Partnership has withdrawn its offer to purchase the 600-acre Wilder Forest.“Our decision was in response to difficulty obtaining local approvals for the camp based on the ongoing misinformation campaign being conducted by a small number of vocal opponents,” Tim Healy, the partnership’s president, said in a statement Monday afternoon.“This outcome is a shame – a true loss for the community, especially for those who want to see the Wilder property preserved and protected and, of course, for the kids,” he said. “Our hope was to have a place where young people, who are under tremendous mental stress, can get away from the noise of today’s world to better hear the quiet voice of God.”Partnership officials gave notice of the cancellation of the purchase offer on Aug. 31, said Michelle Morehouse, vice president of advancement for the Wilder...Family, community members say they’re waiting for justice 7 months after St. Paul officer fatally shot 65-year-old

Throughout Russell Wilson’s somber news conference after Denver’s 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, he kept echoing that the team was one or two plays away from winning Sunday’s season opener.Yes, Denver’s penalties and defensive miscues down the stretch received most of the criticism. But the offense left points on the board, especially in a critical red zone situation early in the fourth quarter. With 10:19 to go in regulation, running back Samaje Perine bulldozed through the Raiders defense for a 12-yard run to Las Vegas’ 8-yard line. Suddenly, Denver stopped running the rock. Wilson’s pass tight end Adam Trautman was short of the goal line. His throw to wide receiver Brandon Johnson was broken up by Raiders linebacker Divine Deablo, who could’ve intercepted the pass.Wilson’s third pass attempt didn’t go anywhere, as he soared the ball out of bounds after getting pressured by Maxx Crosby. Denver settled for a 24-yard field goal from kicker Wil Lutz, extending its lead to 16-10 ...Wildfire sparked Sunday near Montrose grows to 16 acres
