Wagner boss Prigozhin killed in jet crash in Russia

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 04:05:28 GMT

Exactly two months after his failed coup, Wagner mercenary group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin died on Wednesday after his private jet crashed in flames on an internal flight within Russia, the country’s aviation authority said. Speculation is rife that Russian President Vladimir Putin — who is notoriously unforgiving of traitors and accused Prigozhin of “treason” in June — ordered the downing of the aircraft. It comes only a day after Russian media announced the firing of Sergei Surovikin, the former commander of Moscow’s war effort in Ukraine, who has not been seen in public since the aborted Wagner coup. A former loyalist who was dubbed “Putin’s chef” for his role as a catering executive supplying the Kremlin, Prigozhin became embittered toward the Russian government’s handling of the war. In late June, his uprising commanded 24-hour global coverage after he seized the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and ordered a column of troops t...

But the charges against Prigozhin were soon dropped, and the Wagner chief was allowed to retreat to Belarus, while reportedly popping back in Russia from time to time. The crash also comes after Russian media reported that a top general linked to Prigozhin was dismissed from his position as commander of the air force. The second-year pro has been the Patriots’ most consistent healthy cornerback in training camp, and that’s even with the bizarre still-unexplained situation earlier this month when he walked off the practice field just to come back later in the session.Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Patriots extra points: Ezekiel Elliott explains picking New England in first interview New England Patriots | Patriots training camp Day 28: Mike Gesicki returns to the field, Mac Jones feeds JuJu Smith-Schuster New England Patriots | Patriots to ‘make the most out of’ canceled joint practices with Titans New England Patriots | Patriots claim ...

How Ezekiel Elliott sees his role with Rhamondre Stevenson in Patriots’ backfield

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 04:05:28 GMT

FOXBORO — Ezekiel Elliott hadn’t participated in a football practice for over seven months before signing with the Patriots last week, so he had a lot of bottled-up energy. That helps explain why he’s “bringing juice to the practices,” as starting quarterback Mac Jones said on WEEI’s “Jones and Mego with Arcand” program this week. Elliott was firing up teammates on the sideline during joint practices with the Packers in Green Bay last week when he had only signed with the team the previous day. The organization was impressed with the immediate energy he brought on Day 1.“I think I missed the first 17 practices of camp,” Elliott said. “So, I thought I definitely should come in and be a little energizer boost. The transition has been good. I’ve been getting along with the team. I love the coaches. I love this atmosphere. I love this program. Just having fun.”Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Patriots extr...
